People choose to have therapy for a number of different reasons. For some it might be a vague feeling of discontent or discomfort, while for others it is deep unhappiness or desperation. Some are clear about the issue which has triggered them to seek help – such as relationship problems, addiction, or low self-esteem – but others may be unable to pinpoint what it is that is bothering them.
In a therapy session, you can expect to be heard respectfully in a safe and confidential environment. You will not be criticised or judged. You are free to express thoughts and feelings which you might normally withhold out of fear of shocking or hurting those around you.
Therapy can be short or long term. For some people, a few sessions are all they need to help them develop strategies to overcome a particular problem. For others, there are great benefits in working with a therapist over a longer period to address the underlying issues that are causing difficulties in their life.
